🌷 Tulip Picking Near Dallas–Fort Worth: A Colorful Day at Texas Tulips

If you’re searching for the best spring flower experience near DFW, this one is worth the drive. What started as a casual office conversation about spring blooms turned into a full-on flower adventure — and a new seasonal tradition.

An hour north of the Dallas–Fort Worth area, Texas Tulips in Pilot Point, Texas delivers exactly what spring should feel like: color, fresh air, and the simple joy of gathering your own bouquet straight from the field.



🌼 What It’s Like to Pick Your Own Tulips in Texas

Texas Tulips typically opens mid-February and operates daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. Admission is just $7 per person, which gets you entry, a basket to use while you are there, and unlimited time to wander the rows.

When we arrived, we found:

  • A smaller field bursting with blooms near the entrance

  • A larger field with blooming pockets and more space to explore (and fewer crowds — highly recommend)

We took our time strolling aisle by aisle, photographing favorites and noting variety names to order bulbs later. Then came the best part: picking.

How tulip picking works:

  1. Grab the stem at the base

  2. Pull straight up

  3. Watch your bouquet grow

Most stems pop cleanly; occasionally you’ll pull up a bulb too. Either way, it feels oddly satisfying.

At the far end of the field, we discovered a breathtaking row of purple, white, and yellow blooms — easily the highlight of the visit. If happiness had a color palette, this would be it.

After filling our basket (not sparingly — we drove an hour, after all), we headed to the wrapping station where staff:

✔ Wrap them in your choice of tissue color
✔ Dip stems in a hydration gel for freshness
✔ Finish with a signature Texas Tulips sticker

I left with 20 stems total at $3 per stem — a vibrant, custom bouquet for $60. Considering the experience, photos, and memories, that felt like a bargain.
