🌷 Tulip Picking Near Dallas–Fort Worth: A Colorful Day at Texas Tulips

If you’re searching for the best spring flower experience near DFW, this one is worth the drive. What started as a casual office conversation about spring blooms turned into a full-on flower adventure — and a new seasonal tradition.

An hour north of the Dallas–Fort Worth area, Texas Tulips in Pilot Point, Texas delivers exactly what spring should feel like: color, fresh air, and the simple joy of gathering your own bouquet straight from the field.

🌼 What It’s Like to Pick Your Own Tulips in Texas

Texas Tulips typically opens mid-February and operates daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. Admission is just $7 per person, which gets you entry, a basket to use while you are there, and unlimited time to wander the rows.

When we arrived, we found:

  • A smaller field bursting with blooms near the entrance

  • A larger field with blooming pockets and more space to explore (and fewer crowds — highly recommend)

We took our time strolling aisle by aisle, photographing favorites and noting variety names to order bulbs later. Then came the best part: picking.

How tulip picking works:

  1. Grab the stem at the base

  2. Pull straight up

  3. Watch your bouquet grow

Most stems pop cleanly; occasionally you’ll pull up a bulb too. Either way, it feels oddly satisfying.

💐 The Most Beautiful Tulip Varieties We Found

At the far end of the field, we discovered a breathtaking row of purple, white, and yellow blooms — easily the highlight of the visit. If happiness had a color palette, this would be it.

Top favorites:

Both varieties are available through the farm’s online bulb store for future planting — perfect if you want this experience at home next spring.

🎀 Bouquet Wrapping (A Surprisingly Magical Process)

After filling our basket (not sparingly — we drove an hour, after all), we headed to the wrapping station where staff:

✔ Arrange stems into a professional bouquet
✔ Wrap them in your choice of tissue color
✔ Dip stems in a hydration gel for freshness
✔ Finish with a signature Texas Tulips sticker

I left with 20 stems total at $3 per stem — a vibrant, custom bouquet for $60. Considering the experience, photos, and memories, that felt like a bargain.

HSBC Sucks

Okay..Monday I call HSBC to find out how to do the wire transfer. I'm told there's an automated system and to allow 24-48 hours for the wire to go through. This morning, I call HSBC to do the wire transfer, told to use the automated system, I need the telephone access code. If I can't find that, my only option is to go directly to a branch. (and I have NO idea what this telephone access code is). Get home, FIND the access code. Call in, actually FIND the automated system, it tells me wire transfers are not permitted with internet banking accounts. Transfers me to the third dude. He apologizes for all the misinformation, says my ONLY option is to log onto my account and use "bankmail" ask them to overnight me a check which I'd have by Friday morning assuming they receive my mail and process it by tomorrow morning at 11am. I ask him how I know my bankmail will be received right away so that I can actually GET the check by Friday AM, and not get a "we'll...

Finally...Jared Padalecki Picture!

Okay..the resolution on Missies camera wasn't great...but here's the picture we snapped of Jared a little while after meeting him.

Striped Socks with an Afterthought Heel

Though not on my original list for this year's knitting goals, I taught myself something new! You see, one of my friends has been obsessed with knitting striped socks. And the more pictures and things I see the more intrigued I get. I'm waiting on a couple of gorgeous orders from Twisted Limone . But I was getting impatient. I was on the Knit Picks site looking for new cables to replace a few coming apart in my interchangeable set and while browsing came across the Felici . At that super affordable price I ordered enough for 4 pairs of socks. :) I cast on for my first pair about, um, 10 minutes after the mailman delivering my package on Saturday June 25. I finished Saturday July 2. That MAY be a new record for me. Though the real record is I finished 1 sock in just over 24 hours! Anyway, here are the finished product. I did lots of reading online to get some inspiration on how to actually go about doing this. Yarn Harlot has a blog post on this, but I wasn't sure I ...
