7 Days Into My MCU Rewatch: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe Again Before Avengers: Doomsday

 Seven days in, and I can already tell you this: starting a full Marvel Cinematic Universe rewatch ahead of Avengers: Doomsday was one of the best entertainment decisions I’ve made all year.

I originally started because I wanted to be fully caught up and ready for Doomsday. Big crossover Marvel movies are events, and if Marvel history tells us anything, it’s that details matter. Tiny moments become huge payoffs. Characters reappear years later. Throwaway lines suddenly mean something. Marvel loves rewarding loyal fans.

But just one week in, I’ve realized this rewatch is giving me more than a refresher. It’s reminding me why I fell in love with Marvel storytelling in the first place.

1) You catch things you missed the first time

Watching these movies when they originally released was fun. Watching them again is a completely different experience.

You know where the story is headed. You know who characters become. You understand the stakes in ways you simply couldn’t the first time around.

Moments hit differently.

Watching Tony Stark in early films carries more weight when you know everything that lies ahead. Seeing Steve Rogers become Captain America feels bigger when you understand the legacy he builds. Even smaller side characters and hidden details suddenly stand out.

A rewatch turns Marvel movies into treasure hunts.

2) Release order is the best way to experience the MCU

I know some fans argue for chronological timeline order. I get the appeal. But for me, release order wins every time.

Here’s why:

Marvel built these stories in release order.
The reveals were designed that way.
The post-credit scenes were meant to build anticipation that way.
The emotional payoffs were crafted that way.

Watching in release order lets you experience the evolution of Marvel exactly as audiences did, from Iron Man all the way forward.

You see:

  • the growth in storytelling
  • the expansion of the universe
  • the rising stakes
  • how ambitious Marvel became

That progression is part of the magic. Maybe someday I'll try chronological order, but I love release order.

3) The characters feel like old friends

One of the best surprises of this rewatch has been how quickly these characters feel familiar again.

Seeing Thor arrive on Earth.
Watching Loki steal every scene he’s in.
Revisiting Tony’s humor and swagger.
Getting that first “Hello, Cap” moment with Captain America.

It feels like catching up with old friends you haven’t seen in a while.

And honestly, that’s pretty special.

4) It makes the countdown to Doomsday more fun

Half the fun of anticipation is the build-up.

This rewatch gives every movie night purpose. Every post-credit scene feels exciting again. Every callback becomes meaningful. Every new movie gets you closer to the next Marvel chapter.

For longtime Marvel fans, it’s nostalgia.

For newer fans, it’s homework worth doing.

For me, it’s become one of the best parts of my day.

Seven days down. Eight movies in. Plenty more to go.

And I’m loving every minute of it.
