From Dishwasher Disaster to Dream Upgrade: Why I Chose KitchenAid

There are few home appliances you don’t fully appreciate until they stop doing their job. My dishwasher recently reminded me of that.

What started as dishes coming out less clean turned into dishes coming out wet…still dirty…or somehow both. At first I tried to convince myself it had more life left in it. Maybe it needed cleaned. Maybe I needed better detergent. Maybe I was loading it wrong.

Deep down, I knew.

It was time.

My dishwasher was builder grade, installed when my house was built in 2018, and after years of loyal service, it was waving the white flag. So I did what most people do. I researched. I compared reviews. I watched videos. I mentally committed to one machine.

A beautiful Bosch dishwasher.

Decision made. Order placed through The Home Depot. Installation purchased. Problem solved.

Or so I thought.

Dishwasher Delivery Day Disaster

Delivery day arrived, and I was excited.

Then things went sideways fast.

The installation team took one look under my sink and told me they couldn’t install my new dishwasher because of “plastic fittings.”

Plastic fittings?

My house was built in 2018. My plumbing setup is modern, clean, and exactly what you would expect in a newer Texas home. There was a dedicated dishwasher shutoff valve, accessible plumbing, and power right where it needed to be.

Yet somehow, that was the stopping point.

My options?

Cancel installation and keep a dishwasher sitting in my house that I couldn’t use…or cancel the entire order.

I chose cancel.

Cue me watching my Home Depot account flip to “Delivered with Exception” despite the fact that the dishwasher never entered my home and stayed on the truck. Then came customer service chats, partial refunds, confusing order statuses, and me refreshing my credit card activity like it was my full-time job.

Eventually everything was canceled and fully refunded, but by that point I was over it.

Why Shopping Local Changed Everything

Instead of reordering online, I reached out to Texas Appliance.

What happened next is exactly why local businesses matter.

They asked me to text them a picture of my plumbing setup.

Then they reviewed it with their installation manager.

Then they texted me back and said the words I had been hoping to hear:

We can install it.

Simple. Helpful. Problem solved.

No drama. No vague explanations. No chaos.

Even better, after I visited the showroom, the salesperson followed up with a thank you text.

That kind of service stands out.

Plot Twist: I Didn’t Buy the Bosch

I walked in planning to buy Bosch.

I walked out buying KitchenAid.

And honestly? I’m thrilled about it.

The model I chose was the KitchenAid KDPS624SPS, and what sold me was how practical it felt for real life.

The top rack looked incredibly versatile. Not just for silverware, but for measuring cups, serving utensils, lids, cooking tools, and all those awkward kitchen items that never seem to have a proper place.

Then I learned it automatically opens at the end of the cycle to release steam and help dishes dry and cool down.

Sold.

That is exactly the kind of thoughtful feature that makes everyday life better.

As someone who meal preps, cooks often, and somehow always has a sink full of something that needs washing, this felt like the right fit for my kitchen and how I actually live.

My Takeaway

This whole experience taught me something:

Sometimes the thing that goes wrong leads you to something better.

I thought I knew exactly which dishwasher I wanted.

Instead, a failed delivery led me to a local business I’m excited to support, a dishwasher I’m even happier with, and hopefully a much better experience from start to finish.

Now I’m counting down until installation day like a kid waiting for Christmas.

And yes…I’m genuinely excited about a dishwasher.

Adulting is wild.

Stay tuned because once it’s installed, you know I’ll be sharing a full review.

Because if this KitchenAid performs the way I think it will, my dishes may never know struggle again.
