Hyatt Ziva Cancun: Our First Three Days at a Family-Friendly All-Inclusive

By day three at Hyatt Ziva Cancun, we’ve settled into a pretty perfect vacation rhythm: gym, breakfast buffet, early pool time, lunch by the water, dinner with the family, and at least one daily iguana walk with the kids.

I’m here on a multigenerational family vacation with my brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, my mom, and my mom’s boyfriend. So far, Hyatt Ziva has been an easy fit for everyone. It feels friendly and fun enough for kids, but there are also spaces where adults can get a quieter, kid-free experience, especially in the adults-only Turquoize Tower with its own pool.

I’m staying in the Club Tower in a king oceanview corner room, and according to Reese and Cam, it is “the BEST regular room” because I have ocean views on two sides. Honestly, they may be right. The views have been one of the highlights of the stay, especially at night when the coastline lights up.



Arrival set the tone right away. The service was exceptional from the beginning. I was escorted to the Club Tower check-in desk, and even though it was before 3 p.m., my room was already ready. The Club Tower lounge downstairs has also been convenient for grabbing a drink or snack, or using it as a family meeting spot before heading out.

Our pool strategy has been simple: go early. We’re usually in the water by 9 or 9:15 a.m., and for that first hour it can feel almost empty, with just us and a handful of other people. Once the bars open at 10, the pools fill up quickly. Saturday was definitely the hardest day for chairs, but by Sunday it seemed like lots of people had gone home because there were plenty available when I went down at 7:45 after the gym.



The pool water is warm, basically bathwater, but it’s July in Cancun, so that’s not exactly shocking.

Food has been solid so far. Friday night we ate at the Italian restaurant, where the pizza was really good. My penne was fine, but probably not something I’d order again. The appetizers, though, were all excellent. Saturday dinner was at Tradewinds, the steakhouse, and almost everyone ordered the ribeye, which was delicious. We’ve done Mercado buffet for breakfast both mornings and lunch by the pool both days, which has kept things easy.

One of the best surprises so far was the fireworks. Last night, fireworks were set off from the roof of the building next to us, and from my room we could also see more fireworks stretching up the coastline. Watching them over the water from the resort felt like one of those vacation moments you couldn’t have planned better.



And then there are the iguanas. The kids and I have started doing an iguana walk every day, and today we set a record: three iguanas. It has become one of those small trip traditions that will probably be remembered as much as the pool or the beach.




Three days in, Hyatt Ziva Cancun feels like a very easy recommendation for families, especially multigenerational groups. There’s enough for kids, enough for adults, and enough space that everyone can vacation their own way while still coming back together for meals, pool time, and little daily rituals.

So far, the verdict is: great views, warm pools, strong service, good food, and a surprisingly competitive iguana count.
