One of the big selling points of an all-inclusive resort is the included alcohol.
For a lot of travelers, that is part of the appeal. Pool drinks, beach drinks, cocktails at dinner, champagne at breakfast, a frozen something from the swim-up bar. It is all rolled into the vacation package, so it can feel like a huge part of the value.
But what if you do not really drink?
I gave up drinking for health reasons almost three years ago. Once in a blue moon, I may have something, but it is pretty rare. So when I started spending more time at all-inclusive resorts, I wondered if I would feel like I was missing out on one of the biggest perks.
After staying at Hyatt Ziva Cancun and LUX* South Ari Atoll in the Maldives, my answer is simple.
Yes, a non-drinker can absolutely enjoy an all-inclusive resort.
You just may enjoy it a little differently.
Mocktails made a big difference
From my experience, both Hyatt Ziva Cancun and LUX* South Ari Atoll had full mocktail sections on their bar menus.
That matters.
There is a big difference between asking for “just a soda” and being able to order an actual fun vacation drink that happens to be alcohol-free.
At Hyatt Ziva Cancun, I found mocktail options throughout the resort. Some restaurants had mocktails listed right on the menu, and others offered to make one for me. I could not tell you everything I drank, but I can tell you it was all delicious.
And honestly, that made the experience feel more inclusive.
I did not feel like I was sitting there with a boring backup option while everyone else had a vacation drink. I still had something pretty, refreshing, and fun.
Just without the alcohol.
My favorite Hyatt Ziva Cancun mocktails
My two favorite mocktails at Hyatt Ziva Cancun were the Cranberry Kiss and the No Name.
The Cranberry Kiss was the clear winner for me.
It was made with cranberry, simple syrup, Sprite, and fresh mint. It was light, refreshing, and exactly the kind of drink I wanted by the pool.
My nephew also became a big fan of the swim-up bar experience. He loved nothing more than going up to the bar and ordering us both a Cranberry Kiss.
And honestly? That became one of my favorite little memories from the trip.
There is something very sweet about a kid getting excited to order a fancy alcohol-free drink with you. It turned the mocktail into more than just a drink. It became part of the vacation fun.
You can still enjoy the swim-up bar
I think one of the concerns for non-drinkers is whether the bar areas will feel awkward.
In my experience, they did not.
At Hyatt Ziva Cancun, I still went to the swim-up bar. I still ordered fun drinks. I still enjoyed the pool atmosphere. I just ordered mocktails instead of cocktails.
That is one of the reasons I appreciated having actual alcohol-free options available. It meant I could still participate in the resort experience without feeling like I needed to drink.
For me, the point was not the alcohol. It was the vacation moment.
A cold drink.
A pretty view.
Time in the pool.
A little treat between meals.
That part still works beautifully as a non-drinker.
Is an all-inclusive still worth it if you do not drink?
I think it depends on what you want from the trip.
If the only reason you are booking an all-inclusive is to get the most value from unlimited cocktails, then being a non-drinker may change the math.
But if you are going for the convenience, the food, the pools, the beach, the service, the scenery, the family time, and the ability to truly relax without constantly pulling out your wallet, then yes, I think an all-inclusive can still be worth it.
For me, the included alcohol was not what made the trip feel special.
The ease did.
Being able to grab a drink, order food, sit by the water, go to dinner, spend time with family, and not think too hard about every little vacation decision still had a lot of value.
Even without drinking.
What non-drinkers should look for before booking
If you are a non-drinker considering an all-inclusive resort, I would look for a few things before booking.
First, check whether the resort has mocktails or alcohol-free cocktails mentioned in reviews, menus, or guest photos.
Second, pay attention to the dining options. If you are not drinking, food variety may matter even more because that becomes a bigger part of the all-inclusive value.
Third, look at the overall vibe of the resort. Some resorts are more party-focused, while others are more family-friendly, luxury-focused, or relaxation-focused.
That distinction matters.
As a non-drinker, I would rather choose a resort where the experience is not centered only around drinking. I want good food, pretty views, pools, service, and enough variety to make the trip feel easy and enjoyable.
Hyatt Ziva Cancun worked well for me because I did not feel like alcohol was the only point of the resort.
My honest take
I do not drink much anymore, and I still enjoyed the all-inclusive experience.
I enjoyed having fun mocktails.
I enjoyed the swim-up bar.
I enjoyed trying different restaurants.
I enjoyed sitting by the water with something cold and refreshing in my hand.
And I especially enjoyed my nephew proudly ordering us both Cranberry Kisses like it was our official vacation drink.
So if you are wondering whether an all-inclusive resort is worth it as a non-drinker, my answer is yes.
Just make sure you choose the right resort.
For me, the best all-inclusive experience is not about how much alcohol is included.
It is about how easy it feels to relax.
And you definitely do not need alcohol for that.
